Santiago Alvarez (Argentina) has dedicated his musical career to tango and Argentine folk music. Originally from Buenos Aires, Santiago has been performing professionally for over 20 years and has brought a new voice to the music of his native land. He has recorded several albums and toured extensively in Latin America and Europe, performing with a wide range of ensembles (“Tanino duo”, “Chucara trio”, “Vuela Chiringa”). His first solo album “Domingo” was released in 2019 and reflects different aspects of Argentine musical tradition.
He is also an accomplished teacher at highly regarded educational institutions in Buenos Aires, giving courses in the art of the harmonica (EMPA) and also in the history of Argentine music. Santiago is devoted to to spreading the Argentine approach to the chromatic harmonica and always gives workshops during his annual European tour. In 2023 he was invited by Steve Baker to teach a class on Argentine Tango at the Harmoniva Masters Workshops in Trossingen.
For his 16th European Tour in October/November 2025 Alvarez will focus again on his first love, the tango, bringing his new ensemble that mixes the sound of the harmonica with piano and double-bass to a European audience for the first time.
